Romantic ThursdayIt’s Romantic Thursday with Bookmunchies! So why is Thursday romantic? Because I like Thursday and I like romance! Basically, I just love romance, in YA books, in adult, contemporary, historical, whichever the genre and sometimes I’m too lazy to write full reviews but I do love sharing fun quotes or just gushing about characters. So that’s what Romantic Thursday is for! To share my love. May it be through actual full reviews, quick reviews, or just fun quotes.

The Truth Could Ruin Her

Perdita, the widowed Duchess of Ormond, keeps a dangerous secret—the truth of how her brutish husband died. But a mysterious avenger seems to know it, too, and when anonymous threats turn into public attacks, there’s only one friend she can turn to for help—her husband’s former secretary, Lord Archer Lisle. The man who witnessed her every heartache. The kind of man whose love she can only dream of…

Will His Love Save Her?

The youngest of the Duke of Pemberton’s five sons, Lord Archer Lisle is used to waiting his turn. For years, he could only stand by, seething, as Perdita suffered at the hands of her husband, but now she’s under threat from another source—one who will stop at nothing to make her pay for the late duke’s death. But the good-natured Archer can be dangerous when crossed—and he’ll do anything to keep the woman he’s adored for so long safe in his arms…

Review:

So I’ve been waiting for Perdita and Archer since book one. Since the time I found out that Archer had a crush of the widowed duchess, I was intrigued. And so, I badly wanted to love this book. And I did,  but I also didn’t.

Perdita is the the widowed Duchess of Ormond. The Duke of Ormond died a suspicious death, and someone is trying to exact revenge on Predita (and in the previous two books, Isabella and Georgina) who the mysterious avengers believes are the murderers. The attacks have been become more public and dangerous. Archer knows he’ll do anything to protect the love of his life (even if he’s not quite willing to admit it to her).

I really liked Archer. He’s a pretty interesting guy and I loved that he tried so hard to give Perdita happiness. He’s what ever hero should be (really, I though it should have been Predita that should have been wooing Archer). Being the fifth son of a duke, he had a really interesting family that we got to met. I loved the family dynamic. I’m impressed with his tenacity through the struggle to win over Perdita because personally I was a bit stressed with her.

Perdita. Oh Perdita. How I wanted to like you. I get that she didn’t want to run away for the problem, but there’s a time and place for everything. And when her stubbornness to not let people help her results in endangering herself and other people (like people you love), it’s hella frustrating to side with her. Really, she had no self preservation. Also, she was determine to only re-marry to someone who won’t love her/break her heart. What is this?! Like I said, I get her pain and why she doesn’t want to risk her heart again (especially after the terrible duke). But I was also definitely annoyed that she wouldn’t trust that Archer would love her, despite on many occasions Archer has proven to be worth the risk. At this point all her angst are her own fault.

The overall arc story finally gets its big finale in this. The threats and attacks have escalated to extreme, and danger is all around, where the “killer” is determine to get his prize (Perdita dead, in case your wondering). I was happy with the ending, though it was a bit melodramatic. All and all, Why Lords Lose Their Hearts was an enjoyable read, and nice conclusion to the Wicked Widows series.

{*Thank to St. Martin’s & Netgally for the ARC in exchange for the an honest review.
